Sark: last feudal state in Europe

Sark is a small island in the Bailiwick of Guernsey, in southwestern English Channel, 25 miles from the French coast of Normandy. The island was under the feudal system in Europe over the past 440 years until the recent 2008 when the small island held its first democratic elections. Along with the other Channel Islands, Sark is the last vestige of the former Duchy of Normandy still belonging to the Crown, and the last feudal state in the Western world. No cars, no street lights and no divorce, this small point of land is one of the most tranquil and unpolluted areas of the old continent.
