Castle of Mont Saint-Michel

The Mont Saint-Michel is a French commune in the Manche department in the Basse-Normandie region, located on a sort of island. It owes its name to the abbey dedicated to the cult of Saint Michel Archangel (San Miguel).

The spectacular architecture of Mont Saint-Michel makes the busiest tourist site in Normandy and one of the first in France, with 3,200,000 visitors each year. A statue of St. Michael the Archangel placed at the top of the abbey church stands 170 meters above the shore.

Legend has it that in the early eighth century, the Archangel Michael appeared atop the island and ordered a shrine there to construct  The castle, which looks like a city, is characterized by vast building, surrounded by stunning countryside which breathes history.

He was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979.
