Menhires - the first human-made constructions

The menhirs can be considered as the first man-made structures that survived until today made. Presumably with five or even six thousand years old. Its name derives from the Greek words  mega, which means big and  lithos , meaning stone.

 The menhirs are common in parts of Europe, Africa and Asia, but the most common are in Western Europe, especially in Britain, Ireland and the French province of Brittany.

Though tradition upright stones set is one of the oldest, is also one of the most durable.

Menhirs may have been used for various purposes that are unknown at the moment and can not be defined.
